Otter.ai raises $320 million from General Catalyst for expansion

Otter.ai, a meeting note-taking startup, announced a $320 million funding round led by General Catalyst’s Customer Value Fund (CVF) on Tuesday.

Otter.ai, a meeting note-taking startup, announced a $320 million funding round led by General Catalyst’s Customer Value Fund (CVF) on Tuesday. The capital will support Otter.ai’s enterprise growth, go-to-market strategy, international expansion, and product innovation. The company has previously raised $50 million, with its last round in 2021, according to PitchBook data.

The funding comes as Otter.ai approaches new milestones after surpassing $100 million in annual recurring revenue (ARR) last year. The startup has grown its user base to 40 million, up from 25 million the previous year. General Catalyst’s CVF provides capital without diluting equity and earns returns based on marketing spend results. Pranav Singhvi, Partner and Co-founder of CVF, highlighted the untapped potential of voice in enterprise AI and Otter.ai’s leadership in this space.

Otter.ai operates in a crowded market of meeting note-taking tools, where customer retention remains a challenge. Despite the growth in users and revenue, the company has not disclosed monthly active user or churn rates. The $320 million injection positions Otter.ai to strengthen its competitive edge through product innovation and international market penetration, aiming to capitalize on the increasing demand for AI-driven voice data solutions in enterprises.

Otter.ai’s next steps include scaling its enterprise offerings and expanding globally, supported by the significant capital from General Catalyst’s CVF. The startup’s trajectory will be closely watched as it leverages this funding to enhance productivity tools for businesses worldwide.
