Tetra Pak has expanded its operations in India beyond packaging to include food processing equipment, automation, digital solutions, and recycling, the company said in a recent podcast recorded at its Chakan facility near Pune, according to livemint.com. The Chakan plant, operational since 2012, is Tetra Pak’s largest facility globally and employs around 1,500 people.
Cassio Simões, Managing Director of Tetra Pak South Asia, explained that over nearly four decades in India, the company has developed a comprehensive ecosystem supporting food and beverage brands. This includes supplying equipment, maintenance, marketing support, and establishing a robust carton recycling network. The company has localized 85% of its operations in India, reflecting its deep integration into the local market.
This expansion marks a significant shift from Tetra Pak’s traditional role as a packaging supplier to a broader food processing and sustainability partner. The company’s efforts align with growing demand for integrated solutions in India’s food and beverage sector, which is increasingly focused on automation and environmental responsibility. The recycling ecosystem also addresses rising concerns about packaging waste.
Looking ahead, Tetra Pak plans to continue scaling its services and recycling initiatives from the Chakan site. The company aims to further support Indian food brands with advanced technology and sustainability solutions, reinforcing its commitment to the market. Observers will watch how Tetra Pak’s integrated approach influences industry practices and environmental outcomes in India.
