Anthropic has introduced rupee-linked pricing for its AI chatbot Claude in India, offering plans starting at ₹2,000 per month. The new pricing structure, launched this week, includes a Pro plan at ₹2,000, a Team plan at ₹2,399, and an enterprise-grade Max tier beginning at ₹11,999, all inclusive of GST, according to inc42.com. This move aims to eliminate payment friction and ease subscription access for Indian users.
The rupee pricing is part of Anthropic’s broader strategy to deepen its presence in India, its second-largest market after the US, which accounts for an estimated 5.8% to 7.2% of Claude’s global usage. Earlier this year, the company opened its first office in Bengaluru and appointed Irina Ghose as managing director to lead local operations and partnerships. By localizing pricing, Anthropic seeks to smooth the checkout process and remove operational barriers for individuals and businesses in India.
Anthropic’s India-focused pricing strategy places it in direct competition with other AI providers such as OpenAI, which recently launched affordable ChatGPT Go and rupee-linked subscriptions for the Indian market. Meanwhile, global tech giants Google and Microsoft continue to expand their AI offerings locally. This pricing localization reflects the growing importance of India as a key market for AI adoption and commercial growth.
The rupee pricing rollout follows Anthropic’s office launch in Bengaluru earlier this year and the appointment of Irina Ghose as MD. The company’s next steps include leveraging this pricing model to increase Claude’s adoption and market share in India, where it already holds a significant user base.
