Inspired Capital, a New York-based early-stage venture firm founded in 2019 by Alexa von Tobel and Penny Pritzker, has closed its fourth fund with $450 million in commitments. This latest raise brings the firm’s assets under management to nearly $1.4 billion, von Tobel told TechCrunch. The fund follows a $330 million third fund closed in early 2024, continuing the firm’s growth trajectory.
The firm has steadily increased its fund sizes since its $200 million debut fund, followed by a $281 million second fund. Inspired Capital typically invests in about 10 companies annually, providing checks ranging from $1 million to $15 million at stages from napkin ideas to Series A rounds. Penny Pritzker, the former U.S. Commerce Secretary, remains actively involved as co-founder. Von Tobel highlighted that 12 companies from the first two funds have become unicorns, with 10 surpassing $100 million in revenue and four exceeding $400 million.
Inspired Capital’s fundraising success contrasts with the concentration of venture capital on the West Coast, where Bay Area firms raised $352 billion between 2020 and 2025, accounting for 46% of all U.S. VC funds. Last year, Bay Area firms captured 55% of new U.S. venture commitments, according to PitchBook. Inspired’s growth underscores that significant venture capital is also accumulating outside Silicon Valley, particularly in New York, challenging the traditional geographic dominance of the West Coast.
The firm’s fourth fund closing on $450 million marks a continuation of its expanding influence in early-stage investing. With nearly $1.4 billion in assets under management, Inspired Capital is positioned to maintain its focus on backing startups at early stages with meaningful capital. The firm’s track record of producing unicorns from its initial funds adds weight to its growing presence in the venture capital landscape.
