Urban Company to continue investing in InstaHelp despite losses

Urban Company announced it will keep investing in its quick home services platform InstaHelp, despite the impact on its overall profitability in Q2 FY27.

Urban Company announced it will keep investing in its quick home services platform InstaHelp, despite the impact on its overall profitability in Q2 FY27. The company reported a consolidated adjusted EBITDA loss of Rs 144 crore, largely due to a Rs 174 crore investment in InstaHelp during the quarter, according to medianama.com.

During Urban Company’s Q2 FY27 analysts’ call, co-founder and CEO Abhiraj Singh Bhal explained that InstaHelp is key to the company’s strategy to become the trusted home platform for Indian consumers. He noted that in micro-markets where InstaHelp offers 10-minute quick home services alongside core offerings, about 45% of new users now come through InstaHelp, making it a significant acquisition channel.

Urban Company views InstaHelp as its highest-frequency service, with households booking it three times a month and opening the app more often than core services customers. This frequent engagement helps Urban Company maintain top-of-mind awareness for other home needs and creates a competitive advantage against single-category players. The company’s adjusted EBITDA excluding InstaHelp was Rs 30 crore in Q2 FY27, highlighting InstaHelp’s drag on profitability but strategic value.

Urban Company’s continued investment in InstaHelp underscores its ambition to evolve beyond a home services firm into an operating system for Indian homes. The next financial update will reveal how this strategy affects the company’s broader performance and user growth metrics.
