Upstox launches US stock investing after IFSCA approval

Upstox has launched US stock investing on its platform following approval from the International Financial Services Centres Authority (IFSCA).

Upstox has launched US stock investing on its platform following approval from the International Financial Services Centres Authority (IFSCA). Indian investors can now access over 8,000 US-listed stocks and more than 2,000 ETFs, including shares of Apple, Tesla, Amazon, and Alphabet. The platform enables fractional investing with a minimum of $1, operating under the GIFT City framework and the RBI’s Liberalised Remittance Scheme (LRS).

The service is provided through the IFSC branch of Upstox Securities Pvt Ltd, a wholly owned subsidiary of RKSV Securities India Pvt Ltd and an IFSCA-authorised broker-dealer. Users can fund their accounts in INR via supported Indian bank accounts, with funds converted to US dollars. The platform also supports after-market orders outside US trading hours, which are queued for execution when the market opens. Upstox cofounder and CEO Ravi Kumar described the launch as a significant phase for India’s wealth ecosystem.

This launch positions Upstox among Indian platforms enabling direct access to US equities, a growing trend in the country’s wealth management sector. The ability to invest fractionally lowers the entry barrier for retail investors. The move aligns with RBI’s LRS, which permits resident Indians to remit up to $250,000 annually for overseas investments. Comparable platforms have been expanding their international offerings to meet rising demand for global diversification.

The platform’s US stock investing feature went live less than three months after IFSCA approval, marking a rapid rollout. The RBI’s LRS limit of $250,000 per financial year governs the maximum remittance for these investments. Upstox users can now start investing in US stocks with as little as $1, broadening access to global markets.
